A book about why we read

This superb book shows both the limitations and the potential for literature to expand our lives. Discussion is enhanced by reference to numerous literary examples to demonstrate the authors' points. This was one of those books that was so good, I found myself wanting to underline almost every paragraph in agreement. Highly recommended.

this was an enlightening subject.makes it easy for people of faith to read and understand literature.many things we read about in our college years had a new meaning.it was clearer amore meaningful from a christian view point.Susan and Roger did their best to make sure the reader understood the scriptural basis ofliterature.think of the part psalm 8 plays.the beauty of the discription of the wonders of heaven.literature affects the whole world.it depicts the good the bad and the ugly.it dealt wisely with the christian faith comedy tragedy and metafiction.

Not ready for prime time

I have two problems with this book. First, I found the language difficult to plow through. It takes a master to write a narrative using a local dialect. It works for Russell Banks, but less so for Hopkinson. Second, the narrative is slow-paced and uninteresting. Can't recommend this.one.

Great premise, iffy execution.

Overall, I really liked the premise of this story but I had a few issues with the continuity. For instance, the man who helped the mayor leave his home (trying to avoid spoilers) who said he'd follow soon was never heard from again nor did the characters ever seem to worry about it (which I can rationalize away but would have been a nice detail to add). I also had some serious issues with the way the father-daughter relationship evolved, not just with the events that occurred (which is expected) but with how those around them reacted. For instance, it is kind of insane that the woman followed her to persecute her. I also just couldn't really buy pretty much anything in the ending. I had some high hopes for the story but I was mostly disappointed with how it played out. It was highly recommended though.

This was a great read

Patois speaking frilled lizard creatures, succulent fruits, deadly plants, a problematic father and a main character with fire in her soul. This book was hard to put down as soon as I cracked it open. The blend of Caribbean folklore and the sci-fi genre was very cool and unique. It also teaches you some patois as you read. If you want to be taken somewhere realistically fantastic, check out this book!

Great series

This series is my GOTO series when I have been reading others and just loving coming back...

Its like catching up with old friends. I love the familiarity seeing how life is continuing on.

Things are looking so much better for Skye and Carson, i love the passion when they both try not to include a certain person.

Slade and Trinity enjoying life with a few insecurities popping up and upsetting things for a while, of all the couples in this series, these two have grown up o much and are really passionate about their relationship - but also their relationships with the rest of the gang.

Ooh Theo, its going to bite you in the ass! That letter! Dee is a nice lady, hoping things work in their future.

Conrad Ahh! I really thought perhaps Carrie was going to lift him out of his funk. Then Lexie comes back. He has a tough time ahead, he is saying al the right things but his heart is still sadly broken and I am not sure how I want his story to go. BUT he so deserves happiness.

Arsen - another one that sadly has a broken heart, which has doubled with his current drunken behavior. As sad as it seems Silke needs to move on for herself, just hope Abby isn't used as a pawn.

Glad Carson and Sean, with a little help sorted out their issues.

I am so happy that Cayson family for gave Sean, Slade came up with a pretty complex idea to get Cayson to forgive Sean . I love that Cayson and Skye are back together. and also wonder when Trinity and Slade I wonder when they're gonna have their baby appointment . And I hate that Lexie came back and is ruining Conrad again but they belong together. I can't believe that Arsen let his mom's death lose Ryan, Abby and Silke. How could he, he tried so hard, he worked so hard

You know what, I always say this. E L Todd is one of my favorite authors. I live this gang and will keep reading the series till the end. But Conrad and Lexie together again just make me sick. She is selfish and pathetic. I was really hoping to see double C work but it seems like she is getting conrad with his old one, I still hope not. Otherwise I will be going through some chapters without reading just like I did before...sucks.

I was a bit skeptical about "A True Love Story" part of the title

I was a bit skeptical about "A True Love Story" part of the title, but it reads just like a genuine journal of a man struggling between love for his family and falling for a girl who is head over heels in love with him. The story is about a 'made it in life' man who cheats on his wife by continuing a relationship with a 'Sugar Babe' from the internet, and the emotional highs and lows the two lovers go through while trying to make sense of the relationship. It is all so wrong, but so sweetly (and erotically) right too. An emotional read that keeps one turning pages to see where it all ends.

The author keeps the flow true to life, with its ups and downs, unrealistic expectations of others, while glossing over your own shortcomings, and then feeling bad about the whole thing. It actually felt a bit like watching the Game of Thrones, where no one is inherently good OR bad, and life just IS. The end was just what one would expect of a real life illicit romance - with everybody living happily ever after... well sort of.

On the negative side, the self analysis by the story teller was a bit too much sometimes and some of the emails he supposedly sent read like a psychoanalyst's report. I would have thrown in the towel on a relationship after receiving a couple of those! (But on the other hand it is very much believable that an author would write such verbose emails in real life too. And the girl's responses are very authentic too - sometimes unpredictable, sometimes giving him the silent treatment. Soo true to life!).

It was a good read - a glimpse into the secret life of a married man, struggling with his conscience and his heart, that made me re think about my own relationships, my motives and how they could be perceived by others.

Warning: There are strong erotic situations interspersed throughout the story, which are titillating, but not quite pornographic.

Be prepared to laugh, to cry, to lust, and to fall in love

I have been looking for a story that I can keep in my own personal library--a story that I can dive into and read time and time again to escape everything else. "Sugar Baby: A True Love Story", while I have only read it once (so far--and within a matter of hours, mind you), is my most recent infatuation. Everything about the book seemed so wrong and so right at the same time; I entered the world of Ryan and Kris and was immediately bewitched by their tragic circumstances, but the intense eminence that blossomed from it.

I am enamored by this Anonymous author, who presents a seemingly twisted affair precisely as it was in the book's title. The love story is raw, and as a reader I feel that I am privileged to know all of the beautiful, naked details between the lovers through a series of dates, cleverly composed in a style that is similar to a series of journal entries. This book makes me question some of my own morals and personal beliefs, as all great pieces do. I was grief-stricken when I reached the final page, the final sentence. It was a reminder of one of the book's themes that great things must come to an end.

"Sugar Baby" is one of those gems that you find in a used book store, years down the road when the author and his muse has returned to the dust of the Earth. It is one of those books that you want to keep secret, because you know it has potential. If I were so selfish, I wouldn't be so inclined as to proclaim my desire for this love story to touch a wider audience.

Well done, Ryan Lee (whoever you are).

Real life drama and a fascinating read!

You see the ads online and hear the talk show hosts talk about it on TV, but there's nothing like reading a firsthand account of other people's lives and the choices they make. That being said, I found this book hard to put down and finished it in less than a day. Very interesting, real life drama, and beyond the physical attachment was a lot of emotion; however, I've never been able to figure out how men or women can do this and not get caught, ESPECIALLY when there's as much emotional attachment as there seemed to be between these two. The sugar daddy is honest about his character flaws though, probably to everyone but his wife. Given that, I wonder how his wife has never suspected anything at all. There needs to a be sequel to tell us what happens beyond this book. Obviously, I don't condone the cheating, etc., but these true stories-I have to admit-are a fascinating read.
