Loved it!

This book was a great addition and long awaited sequel to the Ross Records series! Thank you JL Paul for creating romantic books without all the dirty talk. Its refreshing to be able to read a love story without all the smutt! For those out there that are looking to follow up to Phone Calls from a Rock Star and felt like the story needed more- this is the book! I am hoping there is another book for ROSS Records in the future that could possibly include a Cammy/Nick romance! Thanks for a great read!~

Time Warp

Well this was an interesting walk back in time. Welcome to a faraway place where technology has not penetrated the boundaries of fiction. Many plot points in this novel would logically be solved with two minutes and an internet connection. This author has lost touch with what's happening in the New Adult world in 2013.

My biggest regret about this story is the train-wreck that Isabella has become. When the book begins, she has made a series of bad decisions -- dropping out of college, allowing a new older control freak boyfriend to lease her a car, rent her an apartment (she gives him a key), and use his influence to place her in a job. He takes her to dinners with people forty years older than she is. She has no money. Her parents also are ruined. She never asks them or anyone for advice and she ignores her friends' remarks. You would think: at least she has her integrity. But you would be mistaken -- she is too spineless to cut bait from the bad fiancé, before she starts fresh with the boy she loves. At one point, I wondered: what about her job? Why is she not going to work? It turns out that she has resigned with no notice, with no loyalty to the business that trained her, gave her a start (with no diploma), and relied on her. There goes that job reference.

Modern women know about having a credit rating, using it to buy a car and to rent an apartment. Modern women know: if the funds for tuition dry up suddenly, you go to the student financial aid office and find a solution to finish the degree. A woman in 2013 googles the older man who asks her out. She looks into past girlfriends. She would consider a man who has no friends highly suspect. She has been trained through health class in high school and modern media that it is not o.k. to allow someone to push her into a wall or put his hand around her neck -- and she is trained in gym class in basic self- defense moves and next steps (you Always call the police, you tell a friend, and you change the lock on the door, or move out immediately). Modern women know: let the man give chase, let him work for the prize. Modern women know: have a career, build an identity and self-respect that's independent of your love life and family. Modern women know: use birth control. (Modern men know: confirm the birth control.). Sigh. Not this young woman. The Isabella we loved, who met challenges and pushed herself in Phone Calls from a Rock Star, has become so limited and defeated as a character, you follow her story with anxiety and pity. This book is not entertainment. The ending (I think the author sees it as happy) is especially bleak.

I read it because I liked the first one.

***Vague spoilers***
Not as good as the first novel. To be totally honest, I felt like the character development from the first novel wasn't really there. It didn't ring true that Jake's choices between the first and second novel would match the person he seemed to be in the first novel. Even if it did, it also didn't ring true that the heroine would have made the choices regarding Brad in the period between the novels also. Also seems highly unlikely that Heroine would have lost touch with 4 great friends, or that Seth would have stayed out of touch with the band in the interim. Still happy to get closure on the original story.

Good Analog Wiki Companion

If you want a relatively large (2 1/2" Thick) volume to sit nicely on your desk, this is the book for you. This is exactly as the name implies: an encyclopedia with no more than 3 paragraphs on any subject and/or battle dealing with warfare. Very complete with generally good synopsis of the battle and key players. 1 or 2 plates are provided for reference for many (1 every 3-4 pages on average).

Bottom Line: This is a good flip through reference, something to get a quick knowledge set on the subject/battle, and a good primer to start one on their squirrel hunting quest on wiki-sites for a fuller version of the battle/subject at hand.

Happy to have it

I have not had an opportunity to delve into this volume completely. It was purchased to have on hand in the event I find free time for myself to satisfy my desire to develop a better understanding of historical military action and underlying politics. I can say that I envisioned what I was looking for, but recognize that it would extremely large and expensive and take 50 yrs to read. On the other end of the spectrum are volumes like this that cover many events in the broadest of strokes. While the narratives leave much desired information out, I have determined a purpose for this as an overview. Upon a particular event piquing my interest, I can research it at length either on Wikipedia or, if that found wanting, other volumes.

That said, the book is beautiful. The format is rationale. I consider it tremendous value for what I paid. I am happy to have it

Delightful quick reference/Check Binding

Fascinating, absorbing and impossible to read (at least for some time). LOL Bought this after a reference in "The First Space General" by Edward Hirschman, the main character used this title (NOT this book) to train himself to win a Space War after 300 years of 'common man's' peace. This backfill is fabulous and delightful and definitely quicker than the 'Britanica" . Surprisingly compelling, especially the start. NOTE: The binding will NOT take strain, mine is already separating, but what else do you expect from something with 'heft'. Highly recommended. Thanks, Harry!

Brilliant Overview of Agile Methods and Benefits

Clarke Ching's engaging little business parable does a great job of explaining not only the basics behind agile, but also the incredible benefit it can deliver. Using the story of a struggling software company,he shows how getting fully functional basic versions of a product to market as soon as possible, instead of waiting until you have all of the desired functionality, can be a cash flow win for both the developer and their customer. It also means better products due to the rapid learning from earlier versions. Mr Ching calls it a parable for software developers, but product companies of all sorts can benefit from the underlying concepts. Common sense?...maybe. But since when has common sense been common practice?

This book is excellent. There is nothing like it out there. It makes one simple fundamental point and does so with jewel-like clarity: by working collaboratively and incrementally with your customers, you can successfully do projects that were impossible the old way. There's no dogmatism or over-the-top evangelism in here; just the short, sweet truth. I liked it so much I bought a bunch of copies. I want to give this to every client I have.

A Real Nugget

This story rings sufficiently true - especially given the current economic state - to be well worth the time to read it. The story was short enough to not lose my attention, and long enough to flesh out engaging details. The breadth of stakeholders involved is one of those fleshed-out-details that keeps it believable. Reading this parable won't cure your financial woes overnight, but it might give you a good nudge to take the first steps of a thousand miles towards a better financial outlook.

He picked up uke, mandolin, fiddle, and guitar early in life. At the age of 18, Chet landed a job as staff guitarist at Knoxville powerhouse KNOX radio. In 1946, after marrying Leona Johnson, Chet worked briefly in Nashville with Red Foley at the Grand Ole Opry. After several other short-lived jobs in various cities, Atkins returned in 1948 to Knoxville to work with Homer and Jethro. This was followed by associations with the Carter Sisters and Fred Rose. Chet quickly became one of Nashville s most respected session musicians. By 1953, Atkins was doing a lot of session work for RCA. In 1954, Chet s first LP, Gallopin Guitar, was released, and that same year he was given his own radio show on WSM. The following year, Gretsch invited Atkins to design his own signature guitar. In 1957, RCA opened its own stand-alone recording studio in Nashville and put Atkins in charge of finding talent as well as producing and playing on records. He stayed in this position through the 60s while also recording many of his own albums. After helping create many hits for others, Atkins finally had his own Top-Five single in 1965 with Yakety Axe. In the 1970 s, Chet relaxed his duties with RCA and focused on developing musical relationships. Through the rest of his life, Chet collaborated with a number of well-known players, including Jerry Reed and Lenny Breau, and others. Chet left RCA and signed with Columbia in 1982. In 1997, diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor, Atkins underwent surgery. Thereafter, he would only play with friends on occasion, or make brief, non-playing appearances at local events. Chet Atkins passed away on June 30, 2001.

Getting Started On Guitar

In order for you to use this book, you need to be playing intermediate guitar. Probably the most important information in the book and DVD is that Chet suggest that one sing or hum the melody when playing. If would be helpful if you already read music before you begin this book. Still a must have book!

Well thought-out and fun way to learn guitar

This book and CD has something for everyone, from rank beginners like myself who can only play the chords, to more advanced players who can take advantage of the finger picking techniques. His explanation of how chords are arranged is excellent and makes it easy to remember which chords will be played next. He is also so sweet in the video that it is a pleasure to watch.

It brings learning the instrument into easy approach. Watching and listening is close to being present in their room. Good to see the technical challenge is included. Watching Chet himself is a study in relaxing.

About the Author
Ronald D. Ziemian, PhD, PE, professor of civil engineering at Bucknell University, was the recipient of the 2006 AISC Special Achievement Award and the 1992 ASCE Norman Medal for his work in advancing the use of nonlinear analysis in the stability design of steel structures. He is the coauthor of Matrix Structural Analysis, Second Edition (also from Wiley), chairs the SSRC Executive Committee and the AISC Task Committee 10 on Frame Stability, and further serves on the AISC and Aluminum Association specification committees.

Opposites attract

I do enjoy Elizabeth Lennox's books, in this one Charles Henson the Third is a stuffy regimented banker, hardworking and very set in his ways, not sounding very romantic? well he's also tall, dark and handsome, of course and he's very attracted to the flighty and free spirited Fiona Chandler. These two are complete opposites who are both fighting their attraction to each other to the extend where it's becoming an obsession and as you can imagine they can only fight it for so long.
This is entertaining and sweet read, when Charles is explaining finances to Fiona she's daydreaming about him, not listening to a word he's saying, he's also struggling to maintain his composure.
There's no surprises, shocks or drama just a nice little romance between two completely different people.

Not what I expected

I usually really enjoy Elizabeth Lennox books, the writing style is right up my ally, I love the characters and the story progression - I'm really struggling with this one though!

The reasons I'm struggling:

There is just WAY too much of the main characters getting overly distracted and engrossed in staring at and fantasizing about each other - to the point that they wouldn't be able to even have a conversation, they would just stare at each other and imagine kissing each other the whole time - and apparently it's been going on for months?!

There is almost no back story until almost half way through the book, and it just moves so quickly, one second they're convinced the other one doesn't like them, then the next they're having sex? Not only that, but Fiona, the main female, is a virgin who is convinced that she will never marry anyone else as she only has eyes for Charles, the main guy - but is equally convinced that he merely finds her annoying!!

Since when does having sex with a virgin mean you've "stolen" their virginity, and that they have no choice but to marry you? Grow up Charles! And then when he goes to see Fiona about wanting to marry her shes expecting a visitor - who never shows up during their multiple bouts of sex? - it is unrealistic, and the time line is just ridiculous, they spent months and months just staring and fantasizing, and in the space of 3 days they get close and personal, go out on 2 "dates", have sex, and he proposes. BAM!

This book is part of the Alfieri saga - about half way through there is only one small side mention of Charles bank helping to finance or help build or has some involvement with a housing development that is being run by someone in the Alfieri family. It shouldn't be the 6th book in the saga, it should be a "6.5 side story about side characters that have no real involvement in the rest of the saga"

I'm really disappointed with this book, its much below the standard I usually see from Elizabeth Lennox. I'm almost 70% of the way through - and I don't know if I'm able to finish it, in fact I'm surprised I've lasted this long!

This is such a sweet Novella. I loved the chemistry between the two characters and I could feel the pull and connection that they have toward each other.
Charles is an Old Fashioned, Straight Laced, Workaholic Banker who just happens to be a Billionaire.
Fiona is a Free Spirit who refuses to give into her Late Grandfathers demands in order to control her life.
Charles wants Fiona to start taking life seriously and stop being such a fly by the seat of her pants kind of girl.
Fiona wanted Charles to loosen up a bit and stop being such a stick in the mud.
What they both want more than anything, is each other but they don't feel like they are right for one another.
Their long running attraction for one another is becoming a problem and neither one is willing to give in.

Hmmm. It depends on what you need from it... Not exactly a comprehensive textbook, more of a semi-comprehensive lay down of the major intel organizations, their functions, roles, and relationships. A solid reference book.

It was not as good as the earlier versions.
It contained too many personnel flow charts and not enough interesting information as previous editions had.
Richelson's sources have probably dried up and this is all he can provide to the tax paying public.

Heartwarming lecture

Let me start by saying that I'm not in the medical field, but I enjoyed this reading very much. This book is a sincere narration of the experiences that the author lived during his long career. Rather taking credit for all of his success (which is quite impresive), Dr Pena describes in a very humbling way his gratitude for the people that has helped him during the years, and his admiration for the parents of his patients who will go above and beyond anything for their children. Using a series of short stories, Dr Pena shows a very human side of the medical field.

When I closed the book at the end, there was a tear on the corner of my eye and a smile on my face.

modern medicine... the old fashioned way

I phoned Dr. Pena's office a few weeks ago to ask a question about my daughter. (I had quadruplets in1991) Not about the daughter he had operated on two decades ago, but her sister. Dr. Pena himself answered the phone and immediately recognized our family. We spoke for 20 minutes; catching up first then discussing the reason for my call. It is the type of man he is. The book is his voice; passionate and frank. I'm thrilled I heard his voice in my head as I read it. Dr. Pena was one of the first surgeons we worked with and set the standard for how I determined how to select all doctors afterwards. You may think it's written simply, but you will find it touches every level of your life.

An excellent book from a quality human being!

I bought this book after Dr. Pena helped a family member. I traveled from Pennsylvania to his clinic to benefit from his expertise! His care changed our family's life. A true angel and scholar! When I became aware that he wrote a book I wanted to read it! As an advanced practice nurse and a mother, I continue to be impressed with this man's grace. Beautiful book....inspirational and lovely! If you are interested in how a true physician thinks and moves buy this book, read it, and be moved! A true gem of a doctor!

This book is a gem!

When I first started to read this book I didn't know if I was going to like it. I am not a big fan of ships, but a friend recommended it to me and before I knew it I was hooked. The way the author brings you to the action is just amazing. I wasn't sitting on my couch and reading a book I was on the high seas back in 1801. I never wanted to put it down. There was always action happening. It was either a sea battle full of tension and excitement, a land battle for their lives, or a fight with the weather itself. There was never a dull moment and was always a twist right when you thought you had it all figured out. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in sailing, history, battles, or just loves action. This is a must read for one and all!

Exciting and realistic naval history

I found the book to be very interesting and exciting. There was a lot of detail that added to the realism of the narrative. The characters were well developed and sympathetic. I hope to read more from this author.
