Jake Taggart is living alone on a Texas mountaintop. No one bothers Jake and that is how he likes it. Jake was there for a little over a year when people from his past came looking for him.
Rebecca Adams knew she would have to do whatever it took to get Jake out of isolation and back in the corporate office that he abandoned. Rebecca has inherited her fathers company and things have not been going well. Rebecca knows that the one man that could help her is the one man that her father had trained to take over the company Jake. The only problem is that Jake quit for his own reasons and wants nothing to do with the company.
When Rebecca arrives in Texas, Jake shocks himself by allowing her to come to his home in the mountains where no one besides himself has ever stepped foot in. Jake finds himself drawn to Rebecca and her problems with the company. When Jake returns to the company he gets more than he asked for when he starts to fall in love with Rebecca, who turns out to be anything but the spoiled rich princess that he thought she was.
This is a simple love story with a great ending.

Excellent resource for heat rate audits of power plants!

I am ADD and have to work to study things I need to learn, but this book was well-written, very explanatory without being condescending, and kept my interest throughout. You have no idea what a rarity that is for me!I work in the power industry and am involved in heat rate monitoring and testing. One of the biggest focuses right now is to improve plant heat rates, which means improving plant efficiency. I constantly look for resources, books, and ideas that I can implement in our plants. This is one of the best books I have found so far. I read it through the first time in about 4 hours, marking things that I want to go back and study further. I took several pages of notes with ideas and questions that came up about things in our plants. It is written succinctly and precisely, with a good review of systems and basics. I am recommending this book to colleagues within my company and have no problem recommending it to you.

The book includes a review of plant systems and thermodynamics - very broad review, assumes basic knowledge.
Includes many calculations for performance parameters.
Includes a framework for conducting an energy audit (we call them heat rate audits), along with suggestions of problem areas, things to keep an eye on, and a nudge at trouble shooting.
Includes case studies for each issue addressed.

*All of the units are in SI, so if you are coming from a US perspective, you'll need to have your conversion charts handy.

About the Author
ERIC BARRETT is the dean of the Slavic Gospel Association's Radio Academy of Science and former director of Remote Sensing at the University of Bristol in England. He is co-author of Remote Sensing for Hazard Monitoring and Disaster Assessment, Scientists Who Believe as well as a number of other books and papers on environmental science. Eric resides in the United Kingdom.

DAVID FISHER is a missionary radio broadcaster working jointly with Trans World Radio and the Slavic Gospel Association. He is director and editor-in-chief of Radio Academy of Science (RADAS). Fisher believed that scientific atheism was preventing many from accepting Christ, so he began writing scripts for a broadcast which countered atheistic spins on scientific issues, and included interviews with believers professionally involved in the sciences. Nearly 30 years later, TWR¿s Truth in the Test Tube program and webcast continues to make a difference in the lives of students and young adults. He is co-author of Scientists Who Believed with Eric Barrett.

It's ok, a mixed bag

It was ok. I was looking for more meat. Most of the scientists are people I had not heard of, and their stories were a mixed bag. Some interesting, some not so much.

Forgotten truth wisdom began with scripture

The truth about US universities is they were often seminaries, first. Brilliant minds emerged from the likes of Haravard, Yale, William and Mary, Notre Dame, etc. Most scientists, Robert Boyle, Michael Farraday, the Wright brothers, Leonardo DaVinci, etc. were Christians and sought their knowledge from the wisdom of God. The "Scientists Who Believe: 21 Tell Their Own Stories" carry the historical mandate to show God's glory in the scientific world He made. These 21 scientific Christians explain how true science always proves the God's mastery in Creation. Their scientific discoveries brought them to a stronger faith and desire to extoll His glory through their continued work. This is excellent reading for youth from age 10 through college. Scientific method is logically employed, as well as explanations of trials in the process.

Beware: not the real thing

The description says "Printed on tear-resistant, water-resistant synthetic paper." It is not. The book I received was printed on regular paper from scans or photocopies of the original and bound by rings with front and back covers made of laminated color copies of the front and rear pages. The inside pages are all cheap black and white regular paper.

I am a former SOF medic, and I have copies of the first edition of this book that are wonderful: printed on Tyvek paper that is rainproof and durable. Don't get me wrong: the content of the book is excellent and better than anything else you will find on the topic (but it is not written for an amateur, you need to have some medical training to make full use of it). I was more than willing to pay $60 for the updated 2008 version of this reference that you can take with you into the field under the worst of conditions. Unfortunately this was a photocopied rip-off, and not the real thing or as described. Buyer beware.

Review of "Special Operations Forces Medical Handbook, 2nd Edition""

This version is the official military issue handbook, second edition, and is printed by the U.S. Government printing office with bar code affixed. The covers are heavily laminated and it's 750 pages are held together by three inadequate clip rings. As with the original version, I replaced the clip rings with nylon 550 parachute cord. It's format (5.5" by 8.5")is larger than it's predecessor (4.5" by 7.0") and is printed on a slightly less weather proof paper than the first edition. This larger format is a bit more awkward to carry in a tactical environment, but easily fits into a gallon ziploc bag . Although Amazon's price is identical to the GPO's, I prefer Amazon's hassle free ordering. This handbook is the Special Operations Forces Medical Bible. Its 130 subject matter expert contributors cover all facets of field, survival and emergency medicine. I highly recommend this handbook to those seeking a comprehensive, but easily understood, medical manual. It covers every topic from dentistry to veterinarian medicine. It is the must have medical reference if no doctor or medical providers are available.
Incidentally, the GPO offers this manual on CD-ROM for $6.25.

Comprehensive Medical Guide - Recommended

This "Special Operations Forces Medical Handbook" is the Second Edition, published in November 2008. My copy has a laminated cover and is held together with three rings, which is useful for keeping the book open to needed section.

While this is very comprehensive book is written for an audience with formal medical training, there are many sections that are useful and understandable for the layman. Chapter 8 is particularity interesting to me since it covers surgical and wound care procedures that are not covered well in other survival books we own.

This is going into my family emergency kit and truly hope that it never comes out of the vacuum sealed bag we are storing it in. Since the type is sort of small for my aging eyes, we have also packed a magnifier with the book.
