The best pediatric physical therapy technique!!!

Run - don't walk to the nearest Medek course if you can find one. This book offers a great backup. I have been a pediatric physical therapist for 25 years. Everything changed when I learned the Medek technique. Prepare for a whole new paradigm in expectation of treatment procedures and outcome expectations.

Good textbook, but you must be otherwise very familiar with QFT

I am working through this book now and just about to finish part II.

If I am not mistaken, this is currently the only book dealing exclusive with the subject of quantum phase transition.

A basic recurring theme is: at T=0 you have a critical point and two (quantum) phases on two sides. Add a little temperature, and you gets a few thermally-excited quasiparticles above the ground state on either side of the critical point. Except when you are immediately above the critical point, where the quasiparticle picture breaks down.

Sachdev systematically treats each model in the same way. First he would establish the behaviors of the two zero-T phases, and then discuss the finite-T region where the physics can be described by quasiparticles, and finally treat the quantum critical regime. Having a unifying structure makes grasping the concept easier.

That said, Sachdev does assume a very good foundation in QFT. It is commonplace in the book where he just defines an action, states that he is going to integrate out such-and-such, and then slaps the end result on you straightaway. You will have a really hard time making sense of what he wrote if you have just finished the standard one-year sequence of QFT.

(If you can do most of the problems in Peskin/Schoeder without refering to the book or your notes, you are good to go.)

Bottom line: be prepared for many omitted derivations and missing steps. Four stars, still. At least Sachdev provides a coherent direction, and I have seen books much more incomprehensible.

Good Photos, No Captions

I bought this book because I'm a fan of Terry Richardson's work more than of Gaga's, and the book is really affordable. Maybe if i knew more about Lady Gaga and followed her tour schedule I'd understand what was going on in the photos, know where they were taken, recognize the people with her. Since I don't, the lack of captions in this book is a major frustration. Are those her parents in some photos? Why is she crying? Is the blood smearing her body prop blood, or did she have an accident on stage? If you're a big fan you're probably sneering right now, but I'm a curious guy and really want to know. I love Terry's online diary, where the photos have simple captions to fill me in on his enviable life. On the plus side, I now know that Gaga has a great butt, and that she looks much better, younger, more vulnerable without the wigs and make-up. In my opinion those photos are the best, where you can see she's just an ordinary young girl, and I would have replaced the cover photo with the one of her lying in bed partially covered by messy sheets, her arm up over her head, looking right at the camera, almost like a young Marilyn. Sure would like to see that photo at full size... Photos like that really bring out a side of Gaga we never see, and that's where Terry's genius really lies.

More For Fun Than For Photography Skills.

I am a enormous Gaga fan and I was really looking forward to this book. I still like it very much, but I was a little disappointed. I love the fact that the pictures are totally random, but I did expect them to be professionally taken by Terry Richardson. I must compliment Terry for capturing Gaga raw in her everyday life although at most 10% of the pictures look like they where thought out (like the one where Gaga is eating pasta, or the one where she is looking down the balcony with a cigarette, and the one with her hand sticking out of the water, or even the few black-and-white close-ups of her face) while the rest have people and hands in the way, or Gaga is just brushing her teeth, which makes it more relatable and is fun to page through, but there was no point in getting a professional photographer to do this job. It also makes me wonder who is taking the pictures when half of them include Terry Richardson...

On the other hand, all the pictures are very good quality, and totally exclusive to the book. The quality of the book and binding is very high too. As I said in my title, nobody is going to study or look closely at any of these pictures, since most of them could be taken by me or you or any random homeless guy as long as he knows how to use a camera. I still recommend this book to Gaga fans, but not if you want to see well taken pictures. If you are tight for money, I suggest you get Born This Way - The Collection [2 CD / DVD Combo] instead, because it is much more enjoyable and practical, since this book weighs a ton

If Amazon would allow it, I would give it 3.5/5, but 3/5 it is :)

Great value for pop merchandise

I am a big Lady Gaga fan so buying this book was not a question to me. Half-hearted or casual fans might not care so much. But here's my two cents.

The book itself is a huge hardback, almost textbook size. There are at least a couple hundred pages of full-page color and black/white photographs. All of it is unique photography and not reiterated promographs.

It contains various stages of drunk and nakedness, meaning it might not be the best coffee table book for when your in laws visit. Some photos are split onto two pages when they really should not be (because the cut off point is really odd and not intuitive). Some pages are left blank randomly, but not a large number of them. None of the photos have captions, so unless you know your Gaga you will not know when anything was taken, who is in the photos (besides Gaga which is obvious), or any fashion credits.

So it is not the perfect photo book, but for a gaga fan I'd consider it a must-have.

Very complete, thorough introduction to kettlebells

Some of the kettlebell books I've read do a good job going over techniques. Others are good at showing you how to put together a routine. This one does a very good job at both, showing the reader the basic exercises, as well as how to modify them, and offering routines that meet the needs of just about everyone.
If you're just starting out with kettlebells or want to give it a try, it's still better to find a gym that has classes and take a class or two to learn the basics from a qualified instructor, not only so you know what you're doing but also to see if it's something you like before you invest in a kettlebell or two (they're not cheap)and start training on your own.
Once you've gone through that initial step, if you want to train at home this would be the best book out there to get you started on your own routine.

I am happy with this purchase but I wish it had a online component so I could see the exercises being performed correctly. It's difficult for me to follow along with only black and white pictures of the exercises being performed. That is why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

The author does however present the basics of using the kettlebell as a whole body exercise equipment. I live in a small apartment and space is at a premium so a single kettlebell is perfect for me.

The book is well written and the author is extremely knowledgeable. I would gladly do business with this seller again.

For Dummies and for "Boomers"

I have always loved baseball and played it until I was 35 when I retired from playing. For the next 25 years I enjoyed coaching my two sons who are now grown up. Last year I decided to go back to the sport I love and play senior softball...but I was a little out of shape. I had a good season but wasn't as strong as I knew I needed to be in order to hit the ball as hard as I used to. My power was gone. After researching Sarah Lurie's website, purchasing a kettlebell, viewing Sarah's DVD and working out, I felt there was something missing. Like I have done when playing baseball I needed to go back to the basic fundamentals. That's where KETTLEBELLS FOR DUMMIES comes in, it lays out the basic fundamentals completely! It has helped me enormously in my workout regimen to get the max out of my workout. I'm feeling my power coming back and last night smoked a shot down the left field line. At 62 I'm having the time of my life! To all you active "Baby Boomers", get yourselves a kettlebell and Sarah Lurie's book. Whether it's senior tennis, golf, softball, basketball, etc., you'll become stronger and feel much better. A must for any sports fanatic "Boomer!"

Dick Hardy is a Pastoral Leadership Consultant, serving churches across the country. A former Administrative Pastor and Chief Operating Officer to two mega-churches and a Bible College Vice President, he brings thirty plus years of experience to the table in helping pastors navigate growth issues. He is the author of previous publications 27 Tough Questions Pastors Ask and the video series Make It Happen. He is active in service and hospitality at his local church. He is also married to The Lovely Redhead. Together, they are the proud parents of two married children and two grandchildren.

Practical, How-to Advice for Pastoral Leaders

Dick Hardy is a personal friend and a pastoral leadership consultant. He has the gift of distilling ministry advice down to its practical essence, a gift that is on full display in Right Turns, his second book. (The first is 27 Tough Questions Pastors Ask.)

Right Turns addresses six topics that pastors--especially lead pastors--continually deal with: leadership, volunteer development, guest retention, personal life, staffing, and criticism. Dick has a few words here and there about preaching, but the book focuses on the bulk of what pastors do outside the pulpit.

Each of the chapters is short and addresses a specific how-to issue, often with an enumerated list of suggestions. For example, here is the title and substance of chapter 2: "Responding to Tithe Terrorists." Describing people who use money as the carrot/stick to get pastors to perform their preferred ministries as "tithe terrorists" is funny and apt, as well as typical of Dick's writing style. Chapter 8, "Six Steps in Determining Which Ministries to Stop Doing" delivers on its titles with precisely that.

By organizing his book this way, Dick enables pastors to read Right Turns as an instruction manual rather than as a novel. In other words, they can skip straight to the parts that interest them rather than reading it sequentially from beginning to end.

Right Turns is heavy on ministry practice and light on ministry theory. If you're looking for the latest and greatest theology of ministry, this is not your book. If you're looking for advice from a seasoned practitioner about how to do the daily stuff of ministry, this is a very useful book.

Right Turns, Not Just for Pastors!

I just finished the brand new book Right Turns: Navigational Decisions Leading Pastors Make in Growing the Church and it was a wonderful read! My friend Dick Hardy composed this work and it is the perfect sequel to his freshman project, 27 Tough Questions Pastors Ask.

Right Turns is broken down into six segments:

-Section 1: Leadership
-Section 2: Volunteer Development
-Section 3: Guest Retention
-Section 4: Personal Life
-Section 5: Staffing
-Section 6: Criticism

Dick covers "everything but preaching" which is great for pastors who don't have [the best] administration in place, have reached an unhappy plateau, or simply want to do better--because we can always do better.

For the Non-Pastors Out There

After I concluded my reading, what I realized was that Right Turns is not just for pastors. Although it certainly stems from Dick's many years as a ministry administrator and church growth consultant, Right Turns need not be just for ministers.

If you want advice grow growing your organization, business, or other people-based group, Right Turns is for YOU! Topics like leadership, volunteer development, customer service and hospitality (guest retention), personal life, staffing, and criticism are something we can all relate to. Here are a few examples.

-We all need to learn how to rule without dictating.
-We all need to learn how to motivate and train our staff and peers.
-We all need to learn how to maintain lives of integrity and wisdom.
-We all need to learn how to graciously deal with correct and not-so-correct criticism.

I may not presently be in ministry, but there is a wealth of relevant information to be found in Right Turns. Furthermore, because I do have an extensive background serving in various ministerial capacities, I can relate to much that is written in this book. I literally had flashbacks of many of those experiences as well as creative ideas for future ministerial endeavors.

Right Turns is also a gem because it can be read in full or consulted on a topic-specific basic. Who wants to use their washing machine to correct a tiny spill if they can just pull out their trusty Shout wipes and spot-clean?Right Turns is perfect for both situations. I find that the "spot-cleaning" ability is one of the criteria for longevity in non-fiction literature.
