A misleading title

I was researching antique French Clocks, which arguably were the simplest and most reliable of their era. I expected to find at least reference to the major Parisian manufacturers but found that the book contain a mass of English clockmakers. It seems that England thought themselves to be the 'world'. Thoroughly dissapointed in that the writer wimped out with a comment that they were not significant. I suspect he never learnt the French language. The book is simply a list of names, with no details of products produced.
